Denver's Secret Spaghetti Recipe
Ingredients:
- 8 ounces of spaghetti
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions:
- Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic. Cook until the onions are translucent.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, salt, black pepper, dried basil, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine.
- Simmer the sauce for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens and the flavors meld together.
- Stir in the fresh basil and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Serve the sauce over cooked spaghetti, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese.
